I loved Annie Griffin’s sitcom “The Book Group”, so I’m kinda surprised it’s taken me so long to watch this, her first feature, which I’d really been looking forward to. Somewhere along the line I mistakenly got the impression that it was actually a documentary on the Edinburgh Festival, and I lost interest. Thankfully, this isn’t the case, and to say that Festival dares to go further than Griffin’s previous work is the understatement of the year. This movie is fantastic, harsh, hilarious, shocking, frightingly believable, and ultimately quite beautiful. I can’t wait for the director’s next move.
