Everything is Illuminated
Wow. This was so not what I expected – I mean I really can’t say that enough, the poster and title put me in mind of Charlie Kaufman-ish stuff, I wasn’t really ready for a movie which is mostly in a foreign language. So it’s kind of a testament to how good the movie is that I kept watching.
It reminded me at times (I think, it’s been a while) of a small movie called Left Luggage, about a younger Jewish girl who discovers the pain of her elders, that clashing of two ages completely oblivious to how much they have in common. That said, it’s amazing how funny the movie is too, I mean it practically enters Borat territory at times.
Elijah Wood is brilliant, reminded me of Bud Cort in Harold and Maude with his practically unchanging expression throughout. I look forward to watching this again knowing what to expect, because even on this viewing I have to give it 5 stars.

I know what you mean! I wasn’t expecting anything out of this film and ended up totally loving it.
Mom didn’t like it as much because she had read (and hated) the book. Heh.
