Like I’ve said elsewhere in a review of Alien Vs. Predator, Paul W. S. Anderson isn’t so bad a director as people like to joke – unlike Michael Bay, for example, he doesn’t try to imbue his crowd-pleasing popcorn movies with an overinflated sense of importance. Event Horizon is possible his best movie to date, taking a simple pitch – The Shining in space – and scattering it with some pretty horrifying set pieces, and a pumping score by Michael Kamen and Orbital. It’s one I’ll watch at any time.
