Never thought I’d say this but it’s the lack of laugh track that hurts most here – or, rather, the fact that the writers haven’t adjusted to life without it. The whole thing feels a lot like an early Olsen Twins movie in places, with punchlines hanging dead in the air, etc. Thankfully there’s Megan (Miranda Cosgrove) to rely on as always. The movie belongs to her, delighting so wickedly in being pampered in L.A. She has all the best lines (including, “Those dumb boobs,” the only one that made me laugh out loud) and she just keeps getting cuter and cuter. I’ll be watching this plenty more times, but really just for her.
