Dead Man’s Shoes
I can’t help feeling a little disappointed by this one, though at the same time I can’t deny that it’s gonna stick with me. Reviews hailed it as the British Taxi Driver and Paddy Considine’s frightening performance is certainly the film’s greatest asset, but I personally felt like there was something missing, some kind of inconsistency in its tone – the way, for example, that it edges so frequently towards comedy; the way, early on, it’s unclear what sin was perpetrated to deserve quite such wrath as we see Considine executing – I can’t put my finger on it. Since I bought it on DVD, I’ll likely watch it again at which point I have the feeling I could have a whole essay to write on the thing, lol. In the meantime all I can say is that it’s worth seeing.
