Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confused

The first thing that struck me when I started to watch Dazed and Confused was, “Wait a minute, when was this movie made??” Answer, 1993, but the story is set in the Seventies, and the production design, costume, make-up and casting create one of the most authentic looking period movies I’ve ever seen.

Like Slacker, Richard Linklater’s first movie, you really can’t call Dazed and Confused a “great” movie. But it’s certainly a fun one, with some scenes that bring back what it feels like to be at school in often nostalgic, often shocking, ways (I don’t think I’ve seen anything like the freshman ‘initiation’ scenes that so closely approximate the crap I took at senior school, lol). It has a great soundtrack, too.
