Bug [2006]

Bug [2006] 5 star

This is one of those movies that basically left me having no clue what I just saw but knowing for certain how it made me felt. Easily William Friedkin’s best since The Exorcist (okay, I’ve missed a few notables along the way, but even counting those I’m sure it’s close), with performances to die for (not just Ashley Judd, her costars are just as brilliant), it’s kind of impossible to describe except to say it certainly bears resemblance to Adrian Lyne’s equally baffling Jacob’s Ladder. Like a lot of adaptations of plays, of course it betrays its stage roots at times, but Friedkin has made this one vibrate astonishingly, and the final half hour is absolutely exhilarating. I’ll be watching this many times more.
