Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
Yeh, err, blah. Of course RenĂ©e Zellweger is awesome again as Bridget, but this sequel has the worst case of mimick-the-first-itis I’ve ever seen. Add to that even, and to some extent you could even accuse the first of this, the seeming need to mimick the whole history of British film successes, from Four Weddings and a Funeral to Notting Hill and even Alfie, which I recently, ironically, called the male Bridget Jones.
Mercifully, the talent on board is working fine and will get you through a first viewing. Strip it away, though, and this is pretty embarrassing stuff. Nothing like the book, which I remember really enjoying.
