Bound for Glory
At nearly 2 and a half hours, Bound for Glory kind of outstays its welcome for me. However, considering I had next to no interest in the movie’s subject (Woody Guthrie, and only a few years of his life at that), I’ve got to give the movie major kudos for holding my interest (for the most part). The images of depression-era America are among the best cinema has seen, the music, both Guthrie stuff and the movie’s score, is great, and Carradine (though I can’t comment on any resemblance to Guthrie) turns in a fine performance. It’s probably my least favourite Hal Ashby movie that I’ve seen so far (maybe equal with The Last Detail), but it doesn’t degrade my love of his style.
