Bloody Birthday
I caught a few minutes of this on some obscure horror channel recently and rather than stick with it till the end I knew I had to check it out in full from the start ASAP because the premise – basically your average slasher with the killer replaced by three ten-year-olds – seemed really intriguing. Unfortunately, this movie doesn’t quite seem to know whether it wants to be straight slasher, black comedy or serious commentary on the nature of evil. As either one of them, it could have been incredible – but as all of them, with a running time of 83 minutes, it falls understandably flat. There some flashes of greatness, and you have to give it kudos for trying to be a little different (triple bill it with Slumber Party Massacre II and Happy Birthday To Me, I’d say) ... but it’s very flawed.
