Bad Santa
I don’t think I’ve seen a movie with Billy Bob Thornton in that I didn’t like. Even Armageddon was passable. Let’s face it he’s one of the most consistently reliable actors today. Sling Blade, A Simple Plan, Pushing Tin, The Man Who Wasn’t There. Finally he does a total comedy movie. This is live-action South Park meets Catch Me If You Can Spielberg. There’s a shot towards the end that is really moving, but is very similar to a shot in Catch Me If You Can. Santa of the title runs “home” to his “kid” and moving music plays as the fps goes to slo-mo. Here, however, he doesn’t merely get arrested. I would have f*cked this movie if Santa hadn’t lived though. The subplot featuring a stock “fat kid” is simply perfect. I’ll re-review this at some point as I’ll be glad to own the DVD. The only problem this movie has is the way its been released in the UK – ie not at all. We missed the obvious Christmas date so now I’m figuring we wait either till next Christmas (yeh right, money-grubbing movie studios) or it goes straight to video (which is just WRONG!).
