Autumn Sonata

Autumn Sonata 5 star

“Mother and daughter… what a combination…”

Finally a movie that makes me look forward to discovering the rest of Ingmar Bergman’s work. Fanny and Alexander I think I loved, but need to see again, and The Seventh Seal I found every bit as overly-artsy as its reputation (though, again, I need to see it again). Autumn Sonata, however, blew me away immediately on the first viewing. All the actors are absolutely astounding – Ingrid Bergman was nominated for an Oscar, but the most intense moments in this movie come from Liv Ullmann.

A short, simply told, intense story that leaves you emotionally drained.
