Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London

Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London

I think I might be the only one… but for some reason I found this sequel to be a major improvement on the original. It doesn’t try so hard to be cool, or something. London is used to pretty incredible effect (really makes me wonder why it takes a movie like this to show British film makers what they can do with what’s on their doorstep), with the Tate Modern as the villain’s H.Q., and a few genuinely exciting street chases. There’s also a lot of humour that’s definitely not for kids: a moment between mother (who doesn’t know Cody’s a spy) and Cody at the start of the movie where she takes some nail clippers off him, saying, “I don’t like you having a weapon,” and a sequence at the end, intercut with the main finale to the story, featuring lookalikes of Tony Blair and the Queen among others singing “War! What is it good for?” which I personally found pretty funny.

Though I dislike most pop bands, including S Club 7, I’ve always had something of a secret crush on Hannah Spearitt, who plays the main female interest here. Though she’s definitely no Jodie Foster, I was actually pleasantly surprised by her acting here … I’d rather watch her act than hear her sing, let’s put it that way. It’s pretty funny how easily she blends in with the schoolkids though, lol. A quick glance at the IMDb shows she’s continuing acting with next year’s Child’s Play 5 – now that sounds perfect!
