Addicted to Love

There’s at least one image in this movie that makes it worth watching over and over, and it’s strange that this was my second viewing of the movie and for some reason it never stuck in my mind the first time: that’s Matthew Broderick projecting the image of his (ex-?)girlfriend, who he’s spying on, onto the wall of his “borrowed” apartment across the road from her, and at the beginning of the sequence, her picture is spread across all the various tones and textures of the wall it’s projected on … till he starts to paint over it all in white, and streak by streak, the image of her motions becomes crystal clear. It’s honestly one of the most astonishingly simple yet beautiful images I’ve seen in a movie.

There’s not a lot more that gets me in this movie as much as that one sequence, but it’s a lot of fun to watch anyway, some real crazy characters, but no real good or bad guys.

And really – and I still amazing have to keep reminding myself of this from time to time – Matthew Broderick is always worth watching.
