Addams Family Reunion
It goes without saying that this couldn’t be as good as Addams Family Values so I don’t want to spend my review, as I easily could, saying how they’ve raped the series etc. This is an altogether different Addams Family, closer to the TV series (the new series, certainly; the original series, I’m not sure since I’ve never watched it but I think I’m right in thinking this is closer than the Barry Sonnenfeld movies were – of course, this doesn’t make it better by a long shot, lol). Looked at this way, I can almost bring myself to enjoy this movie. It’s really really bad in places but it has its moments. Every character, with the possible exception of Fester and Granny, who are played by some of the most talentless actors I’ve ever seen, has a moment. Daryl Hannah and Tim Curry have done way better work, of course, and are no match for Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia. The girl who plays Wednesday is cute but, I don’t know, she’s somehow too shiny or something. Not the Wednesday I love. But, eh, it does have it’s moments that made me laugh (Daryl Hannah’s conversation with the upper class Adams wives is my favourite – “Would you like caviar?” “Oh no – I like to wait till the larval stage …”)
