A High Wind in Jamaica
Though it has a fairly muddled and awkward start (group of kids find themselves separated from their parents, then accidentally kidnapped by pirates), once it gets going, this movie turns out to be a lot of fun, as well as touching on some issues that few movies – especially “family” movies like this – don’t even dare approach. Deborah Baxter is wonderful as the young heroine, and James Coburn lends the movie some much-needed weight. Lovely music, too. Genuinely one of those movies to which words like “treasure” and “gem” apply.
