A Different Loyalty took me by surprise. It begins a little dodgily, meandering its way towards a story, but once it finds its pace, it grabbed my attention and wouldn’t let go. It reminds me of movies like The English Patient or The End of the Affair combined with The Quiet American. It’s superbly made, with great performances from Rupert Everett and Sharon Stone. If there’s a slot for the well-made, adult movie at next year’s Oscars, I’m putting this in there with The Manchurian Candidate for now.
