This is one of those major WTF kind of things – why have I been on this earth nearly 26 years and the only thing I knew of Janis Ian was that one of the characters in Mean Girls was named after her?

This album is incredible and I can’t wait to hear more of her stuff. She reminds me of Joni Mitchell, Melanie Safka, people like that, but there’s also a touch of ABBA about a few of the songs. It has that absolute 70s sound, like as soon as you hear it you picture students lying around on garish cushions smoking pot, and I can’t help but imagine Animal from The Muppets shaking his beard on the drums, lol (that is not intended as an insult to the drummer, who is one the best I’ve ever heard).

Every single track has some moment in it that leaps out of nowhere and spins the song in a new direction. I think I’ve listened to the whole thing around 3 times now in less than as many days. Absolutely incredible.
