28 Weeks Later
I was ever so slightly disappointed when I found out Danny Boyle wouldn’t be directing this sequel to his original 28 Days Later, but I’ll admit, that disappointment didn’t last long once trailers and promotional clips etc started coming out. Ultimately, this didn’t quite hit the heights of the original for me – the way the whole “people are a lot worse than infected people” thing is done a lot less subtly here, for example, and the ending is just, well, silly – but it comes dazzlingly close, from the moral quandaries of the abandonment opening, the slaughtering of the innocents in the middle, and frankly, no amount of hype will prepare you for the wonder of what I’m sure will henceforth be known as The Propellor Scene – a later admittedly interesting set-piece shot in night vision kind of doesn’t stand a chance following that, lol. If you liked the first one, or if you just like zombie movies (unless you’re one of those pedants who doesn’t count these as such), it’s more than worth a look.
