I said when I watched Moonlight Mile recently how one day I was sure Brad Silberling would become one of my favourite directors. Now there’s no doubt in my mind. This movie is even more different from his earlier work but I couldn’t wipe a smile off my face from the start. It’s relatively inconsequential, really, but Morgan Freeman and Paz Vega are just so much fun to be around that it kind of doesn’t matter. I’ve never even seen Paz Vega in anything before – she’s like Carrie-Ann Moss, Zooey Deschanel and Penelope Cruz rolled into one. Edit: Okay, now I look at her filmography, I realise I saw Talk to Her but I can’t remember it or her in it. Anyway, she’s fun to watch putting customers in their place.
It’s too soon for me to say much about this movie, except that I will definitely watch it again and probably get more out of it every time. The ending totally leaves you hanging, it’s beautiful – the outtakes in the end credits sort of do the movie a disservice, funny though they may be … and incidentally, I laughed way more at the note in the credits, “the producers regret that not one dime of product placement money was made during the making of this picture,” lol. It is an insanely short movie, though – the IMDb says 82 minutes, but note that 10 minutes of this is end credits, lol.
